Increasing the life-saving capacity of animal shelters and communities through education, shelter outreach, and development of new knowledge

Free lecture series in Shelter Medicine: University of Wisconsin-Madison Spring 2016 Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Course

You are welcome to attend! University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine offers the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine course each spring semester. This lecture series not only discusses concepts key to sheltering but also helps veterinary students, shelter professionals and volunteers and members of the community reflect on current challenges and solutions for saving lives of homeless animals. The lectures will introduce you to guest speakers who are leaders in the field of shelter medicine. The goal of the knowledge gained is to raise awareness of animal shelters, animal health, and community programs to help save lives of homeless animals.

We invite non-credit students, shelter staff and volunteers, and members of the community to participate in lectures in person or online. Most of our presentations for the course will be webcast live as well as recorded and posted online. Please contact Shelter Medicine Program Manager, Stephanie Koester, at smkoester@wisc.edu with any technical questions about logging in to webcasts or for non-credit participants attending in person. Lunch is provided during the live course and in order to be included in the lunch order, non-credit attendees must notify Stephanie of your attendance and any dietary restrictions by the Monday of each week you plan to attend live.

All class meetings are from 12 – 1 pm CST except for Aimee Sadler’s evening presentation on February 8th from 6-8 pm. Live courses are held at University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine (2015 Linden Drive, Madison WI) in various classrooms as indicated on the syllabus below.

Live webcasts can be viewed at: http://live.videos.med.wisc.edu. You will see the title ‘Shelter Medicine’ in the ‘Upcoming Live Events’ section on Thursdays. Within a few minutes before the class is scheduled to begin, the live stream becomes active and you can select it from the ‘Live Events’ section to join us live.
